We have some exciting things happening with our residents at MOF’s Portofino Villas apartment complex in Melbourne, FL.
First, our after school program for our younger residents has been going great this year!
Lynn Phillips has helped articulate the mission of the after school program:
The After School Program exists to provide opportunities for children to grow and develop spiritually, physically, mentally, socially, emotionally, and academically by participating in a variety of individual and group activities, and through on going relationships with peers and caring adults, conducted in a safe and nurturing environment.
Three days each week children in kindergarten through sixth grade can come to our center for free after school care sponsored by our local partners at New Beginnings Church. The children can have a snack, partcipate in art projects, do their homework, take advantage of tutoring, and enjoy playing together in a safe, supervised environment. We average around 20 students.
Secondly, we offer our adult residents an opportunity to worship, fellowship, and study the Bible together weekly. We have about 15 adults who get together to enjoy this time. This program is growing and attracting the lost as well as the younger generation. We continue to adapt the time to best serve our interested residents.
It has been neat to watch how the after school program has created awareness about the Bible study fellowship. Most parents have visited the Bible study and enjoyed it. Our chaplain, Renest Adulai, reports, “We are building very intimate relationships with them and even spending quality time with the parents of the children and sharing the gospel with them!”
Lastly, we have begun work on our food pantry to help meet our residents’ needs as they arise. Additionally, Habitat for Humanity has donated some clothing for our residents who are in need of those items.
We are thankful for all the Lord is doing at Portofino Villas and for all the volunteers who pour their time and themselves into our residents! Please keep praying for these ministries and for the many to come to know and love the Lord.
